Perhaps, Bangladesh is the only country where the rickshaw
plays an important role in the field of transport. It is the easiest means of
transport in our country. There is hardly any place in Bangladesh where
rickshaw pullers and rickshaws are not found. They are largly seen in the
street of Dhaka city. It has been seen in the last report of the Dhaka
Municipal Corporation that more than 6 lakhs of rickshaws ply in the streets of
the Dhaka Metropolitan City.
The poor section of the people in our country find it easy
to pull rickshaws to maintain their livelihood.A rickshaw puller is mostly a
young man. He doesn’t need much training to carry on his profession. Poor
villagers who come in towns for employment generally take this profession.
A rickshaw puller usually gets up early in the morning and
goes down in the street with a rickshaw to carry passengers from one place to
another. In all weathers, whether it is good or bad, he is seen carrying passengers.
He has no holidays. The days doesn’t work he has to strave.
Though a rickshaw puller pulls his rickshaw from morning
till noght, he leads a very poor and hard life. Generally he lives in a slum
area, which is unhealthy and unhygienic. As such he and his children often suffer
from various diseases. HA CANT AFFORD to buy good food and clothes for himself and
his family for want of money. The money he earns is spent mostly for buying his
daily food. Thus his life is full of sorrows and sufferings.
He suffers greatly when he go to work because of illness. At
that time the whole family suffers tremendously. He is a useful to the middle class
people who generally go from one place to another by rickshaw.
